LEARNING REFLECTION PHASE 2

Theory and Model of Technology & Innovation

Introduction in class

Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning diagram

In this phase, we learned about the theory and model of technology innovation. First, I have learned that there are many theories and models that we can refer to and apply for innovation. One of the theories is the cognitive theory of multimedia learning. The cognitive theory of multimedia learning describes five cognitive processes in multimedia learning:

  • Choosing relevant words from the text or narration
  • Choosing relevant images from the illustrations
  • Organizing the chosen words into a coherent verbal representation
  • Containing the selected photos into a coherent visual representation
  • Combining the visual and verbal representations with prior knowledge

After I understood this CTML theory, I could relate to how multimedia can affect our human memory. This theory is like guidelines on how we can use multimedia efficiently. Theories and models that we have learned also can be applied when we want to prepare our material lessons in the future.
